At Omnifab, many of our employees and departments hold certifications that demonstrate our commitment to quality and compliance with the standards governing a wide range of industries, including agriculture, food processing, mining, petrochemicals, transportation, and more.
Examples include our Cognibox and INS certifications, as well as our welding department’s CWB CSA W47.1 certification.
Today, we are proud to announce another important milestone. Our industrial mechanical engineering and manufacturing company is now registered under Canada’s Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

What Is the Controlled Goods Program?
The Controlled Goods Program (CGP) is a national industrial security program authorized under the Defence Production Act and administered by Canada’s Controlled Goods Directorate.
Its purpose is to prevent the proliferation of strategic and tactical goods and to strengthen Canada’s defence trade control measures.
To become a Designated Official within an organization, candidates must undergo a security assessment that includes background verification, such as personal references, criminal record checks, employment history, residential history, and educational verification.
Why Register Under the CGP?
Any organization that wishes to examine, possess, transfer, store, use, manufacture, dispose of, or have access to controlled goods or technologies must be registered under the Program.
At Omnifab, certain mechanical design and manufacturing projects may require the use of controlled goods or technologies. Registering under the CGP was therefore a natural and necessary step in supporting our clients’ needs while ensuring full regulatory compliance.
What Are Controlled Goods?
Under Canadian law, controlled goods are generally items subject to domestic control measures under the Defence Production Act. These include goods, components, and technical data that have military significance or are related to Canada’s national security.
Controlled goods may include physical equipment and components, but also technical information such as engineering drawings, specifications, industrial designs, plans, and electronic files.
